The Story Behind Bonze Lures
Since a young boy I have always been fishing. Starting off fishing from local wharves and jettys with occasional trips out on the family boat. I always remember watching the charter boats bringing in their catch and weighing it at the local wharf in Paihia. From these early days I have always had a fascination with gamefishing. As I got older I was lucky enough to meet a number of the skippers of these charter boats who kindly took me under their wing and taught me their secrets. From these first early trips I can remember watching the lures and being amazed at how fish would attack them. This lead me to making my own lure at a tech class at school. The first day I put the lure in the water it caught a striped marlin. News spread around the Bay of Islands charter fleet and people were soon asking me to make lures for them. This was the humble start of BONZE LURES.
From these early days things have slowly grown as I have learned more about the art of making lures and more people have started using BONZE LURES. Lure making has become so much a part of my life there is not a day that goes by that I am not thinking about it in some way. I have been lucky enough to travel and learn from captains and lure makers around the traps. Especially a number in Kona, Hawaii. Their knowlege on making lures and catching fish on lures is a priceless thing. This experience has allowed me to create the product I now make available to you.
